12 Sep 2017, Kwa-Zulu Natal: Fifteen people have been injured this afternoon following a head-on collision between a taxi and two light motor vehicles on the R56 between Richmond and Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene at approximately 13h08, finding the taxi and light motor vehicles in the middle of the road.
All three vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered three patients lying trapped inside the taxi and one trapped inside one of the light motor vehicles. Several others were found walking around on the scene.
Rescue services had to use specialized rescue tools to free the trapped patients from the vehicles.
Once freed, paramedics assessed the patients and found that two had sustained moderate injuries while thirteen others had sustained minor injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various provincial hospitals for further care.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
