14 Aug 2017, Umdloti, Kwa-Zulu Natal: A construction worker is fighting for his life after a tower crane has collapsed at a building site near Sibaya Casino in Umdloti on Monday morning. The crane operator & several others escaped unharmed.

At approx 09h50 members of Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to Ocean Dunes, a construction site after several employees reported a collapsed crane with fatalities & entrapment. Reaction Officers were despatched to the scene & the RUSA Helicopter lifted off with paramedics on board.

Upon arrival, Officers found several emergency services on scene & that there were no fatalities or entrapments.

One construction worker who fell several floors & struck the crane bars several times suffered serious injuries and was stabilized & transported by paramedics from a private ambulance service.

The crane driver, who was descending from the operators seat at the time of the collapse was not injured.
