Five people have been killed and twelve others injured this evening following a collision between a taxi and light motor vehicle on the R614 outside of Appelbos, KwaZulu Natal.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find both the taxi and light motor vehicle on the side of the road. Both vehicles had initially burst into flame after colliding.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found a total of seventeen patients on the scene.
Assessments showed that five patients had sustained fatal injuries in the collision. Three were found to have come from the light motor vehicle while the two others had come from the taxi. Unfortunately, nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead.
Twelve other patients were assessed on the scene. The injuries sustained ranged from critical to minor.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions before they were transported to various hospitals for further treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
