7 Feb 2018, Gauteng: Roodepoort update: At approximately 09H10 on Wednesday morning 07 February 2018, Netcare 911 paramedics were in their base when they heard a loud crash at the intersection of Ontdekkers Road and Christiaan de Wet Road in Florida Park, Roodepoort.
They immediately went to the scene to assist the injured and found that a minibus taxi and a bakkie had been involved in a “T-bone” type collision.
The male driver of the minibus taxi had sustained mild to moderate injuries and was in a stable condition. The female driver of the bakkie had sustained moderate injuries and was attended to by an Advanced Life Support paramedic and analgesic medication was administered to manage her pain.
The passenger of the bakkie, a female in her late twenties, had sustained severe injuries and was also attended to by a Netcare 911 Advanced Life Support paramedic and was placed on a ventilator at the scene.
Due to the serious nature of her injuries the Netcare 911 specialised helicopter ambulance was called to the scene and landed at the Florida Park Fire Station a few blocks from the scene.
The patient was quickly stabilised before being airlifted to a specialist Trauma Unit for the urgent care that she required.
The two other patients were transported by Netcare 911 ambulances to hospital for further assessment and care. The JMPD were at the scene and are investigating the incident.
The incident occurred at the intersection impacting on traffic travelling on Ontdekkers from Florida Park towards Westgate and on traffic travelling on Christiaan de Wet from Clearwater and crossing over Ontdekkers Road.
