6 Oct 2017, Gauteng: A woman was killed and another critically injured late last night when a truck crashed into the side of a light motor vehicle at the Malibongwe and South Africa Drive in Cosmos City, north of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene at approximately 20h45, finding both the truck and light motor vehicle in the middle of the road.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the lifeless body of a woman, believed to be in her 20's, lying trapped inside the light motor vehicle in the passenger seat. An older woman was also found lying in the driver’s seat of the vehicle.
Paramedics assessed both patients and found that the younger woman had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life. Unfortunately, nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead.
The older woman was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition. Paramedics carefully extricated the woman, treated her and provided her with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the woman was transported to Helen Joseph Provincial Hospital for further treatment. The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
