5 Sep 2017, Krugersdorp: Three men were left injured this morning, one of them critically, when two bakkies collided head-on on the R24 between Krugersdorp and Rustenburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene and found the bakkies on the side of the road, each on the opposite side of the roadside barriers.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered one man seated inside one bakkie while two men were found seated inside the second bakkie.
The passenger was found trapped inside his vehicle. Rescue services had to use specialized equipment to free the man from the vehicle.
Once freed, paramedics found that one driver was in a critical condition while the second driver and passenger had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support interventions.
Once the patients were treated, the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
The critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for further care.
The cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
