Three people were killed and five others injured following a late night collision on the N1 near the Maraisburg offramp near Pennyville, west of Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene a few minutes after 00h00 to find a taxi in the left-hand emergency lane while the bakkie was found in the right-hand emergency lane.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics found two patients, a young man and woman, with numerous injuries and no signs of life. Paramedics immediately began the treatment, as well as initiating CPR and advanced life support interventions. Unfortunately, after some time, no vital signs returned and both the young man and woman were declared dead.
Six other patients were assessed on the scene. One elderly woman was found in a critical condition while five others had sustained moderate injuries.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured woman with advance life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals. Unfortunately, upon arrival at hospital, the critically injured woman succumbed to her injuries.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
