Mass Casualty Incident: Thirty Injured In Four-vehicle Collision
Thirty people were left injured this morning following a collision between two taxis, a truck and a bakkie on the R114 in Nietgedacht, north of Johannesburg.
Several vehicles from ER24, along with other services, arrived on the scene shortly before 08h00 to find that two taxis and a truck in the middle of the road while a bakkie was found on the side of the road in a ditch. Numerous passengers from the
taxis and bakkie were found scattered around the scene.
Local authorities began to close off the road while paramedics set up a triage area.
On assessment, paramedics found that at least four people were in a critical condition while twenty-six others had sustained minor to serious injuries. Fortunately, no fatalities were on the scene.
Paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, one of the critically injured patients was airlifted to Busamed Modderfontein Hospital by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter. The remaining patients were transported by ambulances to various hospitals for further treatment.
The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
