31 March 2017, Hekpoort, Magaliesburg: At 11h49 on Friday morning Netcare 911 paramedics responded to a collision on the T1 Road to Magaliesberg in the Hekpoort area of Gauteng.

Reports from the scene indicate that two vehicles collided head-on, a third vehicle unable to stop then collided into them.

Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events is still speculative and will form part of the police investigation.

The Netcare 911 paramedic and his crew as well as the fire services arrived at the scene and found that the driver of one of the vehicles, an elderly man tragically died on the scene due to the extensive injuries that he sustained.

The driver of the Blue Corsa bakkie, a female in her thirties was still trapped in the wreckage with life threatening injuries. The occupants of the third vehicle miraculously escaped uninjured.

The emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life and worked tirelessly for more than an hour to free the critically wounded female from the wreckage of her car.

Paramedics stabilised the patient at the scene and then airlifted her with the Netcare 2 medical helicopter to a specialised hospital for the care that she required.
