Four people have been killed and another critically injured this morning when a truck and light motor vehicle collided at the N14 and R500 intersection, approximately 15km outside of Carletonville.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene at 05h40 to find the wrecked light motor vehicle on the side of the road. The roof of the vehicle had been completely ripped off in the collision.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered that four men and a woman were found lying inside the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the three men and woman had already succumbed to their multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for them and they were declared dead.
The fourth man was assessed and found to have sustained numerous injuries, leaving him in a critical condition.
Paramedics treated the man and provided him with advanced life support interventions before he was airlifted to Baragwanath Provincial Hospital for further treatment.
The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have escaped injury.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
