10 Sep 2017, Alberton, Gauteng: Five people have been killed and two others are in a critical condition in hospital after three vehicles collided on the R59 highway in Alberton early this morning.

Emergency service officials arrived at the scene of the crash this morning to find six occupants from one of the vehicles trapped and had to use the jaws of live to remove them from the car.

Five were declared dead at the scene two others were taken to hospital in a critical condition. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known.

Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesperson William Ntladi says, "On arrival, we found three vehicles involved in a crash and in one of the vehicles we had six occupants and out of the six five of them were declared dead on the scene by paramedics and one sustained critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital."

"In one other vehicle, the driver also sustained critical injuries."
