18 Sep 2017, Johannesburg: A woman has been killed and approximately twenty others injured this afternoon when a taxi rolled on the N1/M1S at the Buccleuch Interchange in Johannesburg.
ER24 paramedics were responding to another emergency and came across this incident at approximately 14h25.
On arrival, paramedics found a taxi in the middle of the highway. The occupants had already climbed out and were now lying across the scene.
Upon closer inspection, paramedics discovered the body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, lying on the opposite side of the highway.
Unfortunately, the woman had already succumbed to her multiple injuries. Nothing more could be done for her and she was declared dead.
Paramedics assessed the other occupants from the taxi and found that approximately twenty had sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.
It is alleged that two patients had been trapped underneath the taxi and had been removed by members of the public.
The patients were treated for their injuries and the seriously injured provided with advanced life support interventions.
Once treated, the patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
