13 Nov 2017, Free State: Thirteen people were left injured this evening when the taxi they were travelling in rolled off the N1 highway, approximately 80km outside of Bloemfontein near Winburg.
ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on the scene to find the wrecked taxi lying on its roof. Several people were found lying inside the taxi while a few others were found lying outside the vehicle.
Paramedics assessed the patients and found that two had sustained critical injuries while eight others had sustained moderate. Three other people escaped the incident with only minor injuries.
The patients were treated for their injuries, and the critically injured were provided with advanced life support interventions. One of the critically injured patients was later airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment. The remaining patients on scene were transported by ambulance to various hospitals in Bloemfontein for further treatment.
The exact cause of the collision is not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
